Garage destroyed by fire in Lewis County

WEST LEYDEN

A garage was destroyed by fire on Stinebrickner Road in Lewis County Thursday afternoon, according to the West Leyden Fire Department.

Fire officials said the alarm was raised at 12:48 p.m. for a garage fire on Stinebrickner Road. Heavy black smoke was pouring from the structure and was visible for miles around, officials stated.

Responding volunteer firefighters found the garage fully involved, with the roof already collapsed, authorities said. Crews from two local departments knocked down the blaze and saved a nearby residence, which sustained damage to the siding and two windows.

The garage and its contents are a total loss, officials stated. The cause remains under investigation.

The West Leyden and Constableville fire departments responded.
