Clinton schools welcome new superintendent

The Clinton Central School District Board of Education announced the appointment of Christopher Clancy as the district’s new superintendent during its meeting Tuesday, Sept. 27.

Clancy is currently assistant superintendent for instruction and special programs for the Canastota Central School District, a position he has held since 2020. He will tentatively begin his duties as superintendent in Clinton on Monday, Nov. 14, having been selected by the board of education to replace Dr. Steve Grimm, who retired at the end of the 2021-2022 school year.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Clinton family as the next superintendent of schools,” said Clancy. “Throughout the interview process, it became clear to me that the staff, students, families and community care deeply about their school and students. Clinton is a community that is rooted in tradition and excellence, and I look forward to working together with everyone to continue that tradition and contribute to a strong educational program for all of our students.”

“The Clinton community told us they wanted a trustworthy, approachable school leader with strong collaboration and problem-solving skills,” said Melinda Leising, president of the Clinton Central School District Board of Education. “Mr. Clancy exhibited not only these strengths, but also brings skills in planning, technology and special education. We’re happy to welcome him to the Clinton community and are confident he will continue to grow our success into the future.”

Before becoming assistant superintendent for instruction and special programs, Clancy served as assistant superintendent for special education and technology; and director of instructional technology in Canastota. Clancy previously served as elementary principal in the Poland Central School District, district technology coordinator in the Lake George Central School District; and educational technologist, grade 5 classroom teacher and grade 5 special education 15:1 teacher in the Queensbury Union Free School District.

Clancy earned a bachelor’s degree in inclusive elementary and special education from Syracuse University; a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, and a certificate of advanced study in educational leadership from SUNY Plattsburgh.

The Clinton board of education plans to host a meet and greet with Clancy at a later date and time so that the community may get to know him in an informal setting. Information regarding the date, time and location of this event will be forthcoming.
