Parolee caught after fleeing Friday traffic stop in Utica
A Utica man accused of fleeing a traffic stop on Varick Street last week while four others were arrested, was located and taken into custody on weapons charges, according to the Utica Police Department.
Police said a vehicle with five people inside was pulled over on Varick Street on Friday, and four people were taken into custody for weapons possession after a loaded handgun was found in the vehicle. During the incident, police said several of the people started causing a disturbance, and one passenger, Tyriek Berry, 29, of Utica, was able to flee the scene.
With the assistance of the New Hartford Police Department, authorities said Berry was located around 4 p.m. Friday and taken into custody.
Berry is charged with one count each of second and third-degree possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm and a parole violation, police stated. He is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court.
According to state records, Berry was released on parole on April 11 after serving a 2 ½ to three year sentence for weapons possession.
