Fiber Arts Festival showcases fleeces, yarns and animals that make them

CNY Fiber Artists & Producers will hold its 13th annual CNY Fiber Arts Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 10-11, at the Butternut Hill Campground, 6893 Route 20.

Organizers expect a full complement of 120 booths filled with fleeces, yarns, fiber equipment, fiber animals, and all manner of finished fiber products. The fleece sale and shearer will return, and there are exciting lectures and workshops, a weaving competition, a story loom, and children’s activities.

Admission is $6, and a two-day pass is $10. Children under 12 are free. No dogs are allowed as they terrify the fiber animals.

Fiber artists and farmers will display animals and present a variety of products for sale, including handspun and hand-dyed yarn, roving, hand-dyed fabrics, and finished products ranging from decorative artworks to unique articles of clothing. Handmade wooden fiber tools, pottery, and related farm products will also be available.

Workshops, which require registration, will focus on spinning and felting. By popular demand, both Rabbit Goody and Ken Wolf will return to give lectures on historical textiles and developing a fiber flock, respectively, and Mary Jeanne Packer will explain how to select the right fiber for your project.

The festival will also host the New York State Fiber Conference from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Musicians Pamme Swan and Lauren Mettler will entertain on Saturday, and there will be a wide variety of food options available both days.
