Jason J. Tagliaferri

Jason J. Tagliaferri, avid sports fan and proud father, age 48, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.

He was born on October 23, 1974, in Rome, NY, son of Joan Taubert Lamb and Gary Tagliaferri. Jason graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1992 and went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree from Hamilton College in 1996. In realizing his love for teaching, Jason went on to receive his Master’s from Utica College and was currently a teacher at Westmoreland Central School.

Jason was a sports fan who enjoyed not only watching but playing. He played baseball and football for RFA and continued to play both in college, enjoying traveling for games and the memories made. Jason’s highlights included a home run at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, NY, during a College Tournament and a 99 yard interception return for a touchdown at the Carrier Dome, during high school sectional play. All knew how proud Jack “Pop” was of Jason and was waiting at the gates with a baseball for him.

Jason continued his love for baseball in coaching Junior Varsity and Varsity Baseball at Westmoreland Central School. He decided to leave coaching baseball at Westmoreland to coach his children in youth sports. He enjoyed watching his children play sports throughout the years, living vicariously through them. His smile and humor will be missed by all.

Jason was blessed and is survived by three children, Sofia, Juliet and Jack, who he was very proud of. He is also survived by his mother, Joan Taubert Lamb, and stepfather, Robert Lamb; brother, Joshua Lamb; sister-in-law, Kayla (Dunning); nephew, Peyton; grandmother, Grace Tagliaferri; former wife, Michelle Cosentino Tagliaferri; and several wonderful cousins, aunts and uncles.

Jason was predeceased by his father, Gary Tagliaferri; maternal grandparents, Jack and Sophie Taubert; and paternal grandfather, Olindo Tagliaferri.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, Rome. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 7118 Herkimer Rd., Rome, immediately following Mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider a donation to the Jason Tagliaferri Memorial Scholarship that will provide scholarships to athletes at Westmoreland Central School.

With Jason being a Star Wars fan, we know he would like to end with this message — “Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not”- Yoda

Arrangements by Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Road, Rome.
