Changes to an old carwash on ZBA agenda

BY SEAN I. MILLS Staff writer

Converting the old car wash at 600 N. James St. into warehouse storage is on the agenda for this month’s meeting of the Rome Zoning Board of Appeals.

The ZBA meets on the first Wednesday of every month in the Common Council chambers of Rome City Hall. The City of Rome is divided into a number of zoning districts. Each district has prescribed ways in which the property can be used and development standards which govern how the property is built upon.

The owners of 600 N. James St. have petitioned the board for permission to convert the existing carwash building into a warehouse. They have also filed to change the existing wooden sign into a 4-foot by 24-foot digital message sign to advertise off-premise businesses.

According to Rome Codes, a warehouse is not listed as an approved use in that zone, nor is a billboard permitted.

Also on the agenda:

• Above Grid Rome Solar is seeking to construct a Tier 3 solar energy system on RomeTaberg Road.

• A homeowner on Kolton Drive is looking to build a deck in their front yard.

• A homeowner on North Washington Street is seeking to convert a two-family dwelling into a three-family dwelling.
