Popular nature site closes for improvements

NEW WOODSTOCK

Delphi Falls County Park in Madison County will be closed due to construction and is expected to reopen by the end of the month.

This closure will allow contractors to work on the new ADA overlook of the lower falls.

This closure is all part of the Phase 1 improvements being made to Delphi Falls County Park, located at 2006 Cardner Road.

About a year ago, the park began undergoing numerous upgrades that are intended to increase the overall experience for visitors while keeping its natural beauty.

Those upgrades include a new parking lot, restroom, ADA overlook of the lower falls and an upgraded entrance sign. Also, the rim trail with several overlooks is close to completion.

In addition, a new bridge was constructed to connect both sides of the park.

Madison County’s 2018 purchase of the 66-acre property was made possible by an extremely generous donation from Harold Jones, a retired

Syracuse University professor.

The park includes acres of woodland and riparian forest along the East Branch of Limestone Creek, steep gorge walls, and a two-tiered waterfall, the Upper, which is 54 feet tall, and the Lower, which is 62 feet tall.

The site is typically open year-round from sun up to sun down for people to enjoy.
