Tug Hill Sages nomination process under way

The 12th round of nominations for Tug Hill Sages is open as the New York State Tug Hill Commission celebrates its 50th anniversary. Submission forms will be accepted until Aug. 15.

Tug Hill Sages were first designated by the commission in 1983. It is a distinction bestowed upon local individuals with vast knowledge of the Tug Hill region’s heritage and environment and that have shown a lifelong involvement in the region, according to an announcement by the Tug Hill Commission.

Individuals chosen as Sages have distinguished themselves by their strong historical knowledge of the region and by their actions that have directly contributed to improving quality of life on “the Hill,” the announcement added.

The most recent Tug Hill Sage nomination process occurred in 2015, and to date, 36 individuals have been recognized as embodying the meaning of a “Tug Hill Sage”.

Applications can be mailed to the commission office at the Dulles State Office Building, 317 Washington St., Watertown, NY 13601; or they can be filled out electronically and emailed to Taylor McKinney at taylor@ tughill.org.

The New York State Tug Hill Commission is a non-regulatory state agency charged with helping local governments, organizations, and citizens shape the future of the region, especially its environment and economy.
