Hamilton College has three teams ranked in polls

Hamilton College has three of its New England Small College Athletic Conference teams ranked in polls for their respective sports.

The men’s soccer team made notable moves up two NCAA Division III polls that were recently released.

The Continentals (6-0-1 overall) are ranked ninth in the D3soccer.com Top 25 poll and 12th in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll. Hamilton was ranked 19th in both polls last week.

The Continentals edged SUNY Polytechnic 1-0 on Sept. 20 and defeated then-nationally ranked No. 10 Tufts University by the same score Saturday.

Hamilton and Wesleyan University, which is ranked in the top 10 in both polls, played to a 1-1 tie Sunday.

Ehrenfreund tops the team with three assists. Ben Ziegler, who has started all four NESCAC matches, owns a 0.62 goals against average and .857 save percentage with two shutouts in 437-plus minutes.

Hamilton travels to Connecticut College for a conference match that starts at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Camels are ranked eighth in the D3soccer. com poll.

Hamilton field hockey ranked in Division III coaches poll

The Hamilton College Continentals are No. 19 in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Top 20 poll.

Clinton-based Hamilton (4-3 overall) is in the poll for the first time this season. The Continentals received votes in last week’s poll.

Hamilton blew out Skidmore College 6-1 on the road Sept. 20, lost 2-0 against No. 3 Tufts University on Saturday, and defeated Wesleyan University 4-2 on Sunday. The three teams the Continentals have lost to this season have a combined record of 22-1.

Hamilton is scheduled to take on Connecticut College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game at noon Saturday.

The Continentals are led on offense by Hannah Dillon, who has three goals and four assists. Tracey Stafford and Lilly Truchon have also scored three goals this season. Abby Griffin has played every minute in the cage and has a 1.83 goals against average and .658 save percentage.

Hamilton women’s golf team earns ranking

Hamilton College is ranked 24th in the most recent Women’s Golf Coaches Association Division III Top 25 poll.

The team is coached by New Hartford native Lauren Cupp.

Hamilton appeared in the poll for the first time this fall. The Continentals finished in third place and ahead of three ranked teams in their own fall invitational on Sept. 10 and Sept. 11.

Hamilton finished 12th out of 18 teams in the NCAA Division III Fall Preview in Florida on Sept. 18 and Sept. 19 as half of the tournament field was ranked in the Top 25. The Continentals ended seventh out of nine teams in the Williams College Championship on Sept. 24 and Sept. 25. Five of the teams in that event were ranked and two more received votes in the latest poll.

Peyton Sichol has led Hamilton with all six rounds in the 70s. Sichol has finished in the top 10 in each of the Continentals’ three tournaments this fall.

Hamilton is set to compete in Middlebury College’s George Phinney Classic at Ralph Myhre Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday. Middlebury is tied with the Continentals at No. 24 in the latest poll.
