Reception for Quilts Unlimited Friday

OLD FORGE

The annual Quilts Unlimited Exhibition will be unveiling the extravagant works of fiber arts, created by some of the most preeminent quilters in the country at View on Oct. 1.

To celebrate this year’s exhibit, View invites the public to a free opening reception on Friday, Sept. 30. A special preview of the show will be from 4-5 p.m. for all View members and exhibiting artists. The Exhibition will welcome everyone from 5-7 p.m. Light refreshments and a cash bar will be available in the lobby.

The nearly 70 quilts on display demonstrate a wide variety of techniques and approaches to the medium from the traditional to the contemporary. Each artist takes the idea of quilting in unique directions with an extremely sophisticated level of commitment to design, personal creativity, and craft. The end results are a mix of Art Quilts, Bed Quilts, Wall Art, and even quilts made from nonrecyclable materials, that will pique your imagination and fuel your creativity.

On Saturday, the Quilts Unlimited Lecture and Awards Luncheon will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and will feature the exhibition’s Juror of Awards, Pat Harrison. Harrison’s lecture, “Coloring Your Quilts,” explores how the color combinations of nature can be translated into quilts. The lecture is loaded with visuals of color concepts illustrated with computer designed virtual quilts, charts, and illusions. The lecture will be followed by the official Awards Ceremony for Quilts Unlimited and lunch.

Continuing the celebration further, View is offering half-off admission to the galleries on Oct. 1 and 2.

Other exhibitions that will be on display as part of Quilts Unlimited are: “Textilis; Natalya Khorover: Art for Earth’s Sake”; “The Migrants Alphabet”; “Small Wonders”; and the 4”x12” Exhibition.

Also, part of Quilts Unlimited, the 2nd Annual Adirondack Quilt Conference will run from Oct. 17 through Oct. 19. The Conference will offer a series of workshops and lectures allowing quilters to experience quilting in many forms, learn new tips, tricks, and techniques from nationally renowned experts, and connect with fellow fabric artists.

Quilts Unlimited will run through Dec. 3. View is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday; and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. View will be closed on Sundays after Columbus Day. Gallery Admission is $10, free for members. For more information call 315-369-6411.
