Genesis Group, First Source offer grant for teachers

The Genesis Group and First Source have announce what they hope to become an annual scholarship grant for teachers.

Originally founded as a Teachers Federal Credit Union, First Source seeks to give back to the community in a multitude of ways with an emphasis on education, according to the announcement.

“Traditional scholarships are most often given to the student,” said Pamela Way, community relations supervisor for First Source. “We wanted to also give back directly to the educators. This new scholarship grant will allow for 3 classrooms to receive $1,000 each to fund a project or program that teaches personal finance and money management.”

The program must encompass financial education or money management in Oneida or Herkimer Counties for grades K-12 or college courses. For details and to apply, educators can visit fsource.org. Applications are due by October 21, 2022. Winners will be announced at the Genesis Group’s Annual Celebration of Education Event at Hart’s Hill Inn, 135 Clinton St. in Whitesboro, on Thursday, Nov. 17, at 5:30 p.m.

First Source Federal Credit Union is a full-service financial institution, serving members and the community since 1938. Originally founded as Utica Teachers Federal Credit Union, the name changed to First Source in 1992 to better reflect our broad and diverse membership, the announcement said. It serves more than 50,000 members with branches in New Hartford, south Utica, north Utica, Herkimer, and Rome.
