Two students will get STEAM Leadership Conference scholarships

BY NICOLE A. HAWLEY Staff writer

The Capitol Arts Complex, 220 West Dominick St., will host its SummerStage Fall Festival Friday and Saturday, Oct. 14 and 15, featuring the first Project Fibonacci Foundation Trivia Contest.

The Trivia Contest will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, in Cinema Capitol, located next to the Capitol Theatre. Potential contestants must fill out their submission forms by 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4. Forms are available online at www.romecapitol.com/fibonacci-trivia-contest.

The Project Fibonacci Foundation Inc. will award full scholarships to two lucky students, ages 14-18, to attend its annual oneweek Project Fibonacci STEAM (science, technology engineering, arts and math) Leadership Conference in Rome in late July 2023. The scholarships, each valued at $1,500, include conference tuition, overnight accommodations and meals.

It will be a TV game show-style trivia. Each contestant will have a button to trigger a buzzer and light to answer the questions. Contestants can either play for themselves or as a representative for another.

In concert with its MOSART vision, Andrew Drozd, chairman of the Project Fibonacci Foundation board, said the Foundation works with the Rome Capitol Theatre and other organizations in the downtown Rome corridor to help build greater capacity to serve the youth and communities of interest in the area.

“The trivia contest is a fun way of engaging local students 14-19 years of age, by offering full-paid registrations for two lucky students to attend our 2023 STEAM conference after over a twoyear pause and pushing forward towards our goal of growing the regional STEM workforce,” said Drozd. “We are trying hard to complement the great STEM activities in our area. We can help connect students to future job opportunities and train them to think like entrepreneurs where they can seize the opportunity.”

Game examples from past competitions are on the trivia submission and information page at www.romecapitol.com/fibonacci-trivia-contest. There is also additional information about the Project Fibonacci STEAM Leadership Conference on the page.

Those who would like to be considered as a contestant may follow the link and fill out the submission form.

There is no entry fee and the contest is open to the general public.

Relatives and employees of Jervis Public Library, Capitol Civic Center and the Project Fibonacci Foundation are not eligible to compete. Winning contestants must meet the contest requirements. Requirements are on the submission page.
