RFA swims past Sherburne-Earlville in opener

The Rome Free Academy boys swimming and diving team opened its season with a 62-27 win over Sherburne-Earlville at home Tuesday in the Center State League.

RFA’s 200 medley relay team of Jack Anderegg, Dominick Gratch, Joseph Keeney and Tanner Brawdy won in 1:53.28. The Black Knights’ 200 freestyle relay team of Anderegg, Gratch, Jack Wood and Brawdy won in 1:41.20.

Gratch also won the individual medley in 2:20.18. Brawdy also won the 50 freestyle in 24.38. Keeney aso won the 100 butterfly in 1:00.46. Anderegg also won the 100 backstroke in 1:11.77.

Stone Mercurio of RFA won the diving event.

RFA will travel to Cooperstown for a league meet at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Clinton girls skate to another shutout win

The Clinton girls ice hockey team beat Ithaca 5-0 Tuesday in a Section III league game for the Warrors’ third shutout of the season.

Five Clinton players scored a goal each — Hailey Kwiatkowski, Kelsey Fuller, Lauren Rey, Leola Johnson and Abby Kurdziolek.

Kurdziolek also added a pair of assists, as did Drew Kopek. Kwiatkowski, Johnson and Fuller each added an assist and Kate Elbrecht had one as well.

In net for Clinton, Casey Clausen stopped all six shots she faced.

Ithaca’s Shelby Howells had 30 in the loss.

Clinton is now 4-1 on the season and travels to Skaneateles for a 6:30 p.m. start Tuesday in the league.

Red Devils win on the lanes

The Vernon-Verona-Sherrill girls bowling team defeated Utica Proctor 7-4 in a Tri-Valley League match at home CAC in Sherrill Tuesday.

Rylee Trunko led the Red Devils with a high game score of 151. Rylee Dann had the team’s high series of 410. Trunko bowled a 387 series.

For Proctor, Kaitlyn Troung led the way with a high game of 164 and high series of 430.

VVS had 2,518 total pins, seven more than Proctor’s 2,511.

The Red Devils improved to 1-2 on the season and will travel to TVL foe Central Valley Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 15 at State Bowling Center in Ilion.

Holland Patent girls blank

Herkimer in bowling

The Holland Patent girls bowling team beat Herkimer 5-0 Tuesday in the Center State Conference at State Bowling Center in Ilion.

Avery Carlson led the Golden Knights with high game of 169 and a high series of 438.

Abby O’Hara had Herkimer’s high game of 123 and Haley Randy had the high series of 325.

HP hosts Clinton at 4 p.m. today at King Pin Lanes in Rome in a non-league contest.

HP boys roll past Herkimer

The Holland Patent boys bowling team defeated Herkimer 4-1 Tuesday in the Center State on the road.

Wyatt Humpf had HP’s high game score of 195 and John Manion had the team’s high series of 497.

Herkimer’s Michael Conley led the team with a high game of 190 and high series of 506.

HP hosts Clinton at 4 p.m. today at King Pin Lanes in Rome in a non-league contest.

Red Devils lose TVL matchup

In a girls basketball game, VVS lost to host Notre Dame, 55-37.

Maggie Trinkaus scored a team-high 22 points and had seven rebounds and seven steals for the Jugglers. Allie Buschman added 11 points.

Statistics for VVS were not provided.

The Red Devils, 1-2, are back on the floor on Friday when they play in the first round of the Girls Tip-Off Tourney with Unadilla Valley, Cooperstown and host Sherburne-Earlville.

HP girls fall to Mustangs The Mount Markham girls basketball team beat Holland Patent 54-38 Monday on the road in a non-league game.

HP led 17-10 at the half, but Mount Markham exploded for 23 in the third to take a 33-22 lead then outscored the Golden Knights by seven to seal the win.

Caroline Entwistle led all scorers with 25 for Mount Markham and added 11 rebounds for a double-double.

For HP, Liz Cingranelli led the team with eight points. Emily Carlson had seven points and nine boards. Michaela Cushman scored seven and had seven rebounds.

HP (1-1) hosts Canastota at 7 p.m. Thursday in Center State Conference action.
